paul k. winston President, Winston International
Paul is the Chief Executive of Winston International and is well known for his work as an innovator in the modular housing industry. He has worked in this field throughout his life. During the last two decades he has been actively engaged in the development of modular systems and new technology.
MODULAR SYSTEM EXPERIENCE WEYERHAEUSER, QUADRANT HOMES DIVISION: The Quadrant Homes Division, a part of the lumber giant, Weyerhaeuser, selected Paul to develop a modular home division in Dirks, Oklahoma. Weyerhaeuser recognized the superior engineering and design of his system, and became the third company to utilize the Winston System. For this project, the Winston System was selected from over 60 competitors to build the Oklahoma plant. Paul's responsibilities encompassed the entire operation, from design and construction of a new plant, to responsibility for personnel and all phases of housing manufacturing. Several thousand units were shipped.
McGRATH MODULAR CORP: McGrath Modular was the second company to recognize the superior aspects of the Winston Modular process. In 1970, McGrath was a large conventional construction company with over 30 tracts under development. Paul's responsibilities included designing and setting up the plant facility. In addition, he was in charge of personnel and plant operations during the production phase. This facility was highly successful, and built and delivered over 2000 units.
TASK FORCE HOMES: Task Force was the first modular home builder to utilize the Winston System of construction. Paul was responsible for all phases of the operation needed for the modular home production.
PACKAGED HOMES: This company was a builder of pre-cut houses which were shipped to the homeowner's site for assembly. Paul's responsibility included assembly of the entire pre-cut house from foundation to finished electrical and plumbing.
U. S. HOMES: Paul was hired by U. S. Homes to perform a time study for a project that was over budget and behind in delivery. The study resulted in a considerable cost savings to U. S. Homes, and a construction schedule that delivered the project on time. Subsequent contracts with Paul put him completely in charge of control of materials, plans and construction responsibility from foundation to completion of building shell.
UNITED CHURCH STRUCTURES: This company was the builder of modular churches. The unique modular system was based on utilizing laminated panels, tension panels and stress skin panels. It was the first modular company to use the vertical glue laminated beam and truss systems. Paul was responsible for the panel fabrication unit. He also managed a crew that laminated 4' x 8' and 4' x 14' stress skin panels. Under his direction, 140 to 150 panels were built per day, allowing the plant to produce one church per week.
HUD: Modular Housing Consultant for the U. S. Government. Paul was called upon by HUD to brief Agency Officials and alert them to Winston System approaches to successfully fill Indian housing needs utilizing modular housing.
THE INTER-MOUNTAIN STATES PROJECT: Paul was called upon for his expertise in developing a comprehensive plan to develop Modular Housing Plants. This strategy was designed to support a ten year plan to meet the housing needs in the Inter-Mountain States of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.
AMERICAN INDIAN PROPOSALS: Paul worked jointly with Tribal Leaders in the Blackfoot, Sioux, Choctaw and Navajo Indian Nations, in developing and implementing a workable strategy using the Winston Modular System The plan provided for quick and affordable, quality housing which would also teach building skills to tribal members.
